Tooth colored fillings
TOOTH COLORED FILLINGS (non-mercury)
The clear alternative to traditional silver fillings.
A composite filling is a plastic like material. After tooth decay is removed and cleaned, this tooth colored material is layered into the tooth. Each layer is hardened or cured with highly intense visible light, and the final surface is shaped and polished to match the tooth. The final restoration is virtually invisible.
Composite fillings or "tooth colored fillings" are more than just attractive. They are environmentally non-toxic because they use no mercury. They are stronger because they bond directly to the surface of the tooth. They protect the tooth from fracturing because they don't require the severe "undercut" (removal of healthy tooth structure) of a mercury filling and can be more conservative (don't have to remove healthy tooth structure).
Silver fillings over time cause cracks to develop in teeth due to the undercut nature of their preparations. Composite or "tooth colored fillings" allow us to only remove the decay and leave the tooth in a stronger, healthier situation. Composite fillings also seal the teeth by bonding the tooth and filling together whereas silver fillings leak over time due to the lack of a bond.
Tooth colored fillings are the treatment of choice in our office because they keep the teeth ststronger and looking better.
